Session 444 - End of an Arc

 Date: 24 February 1626

Zenith: Deusix
Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Moon Face: Dragon Face (Tidelocked)

Events:

--- Let's End This Motherfucker
- Now, this is it! Now is the time to choose.
- The boss battle begins, a spear thrown by Hidra slices past the enemy's face.
- The enemy is named Un'Goth who is possessing Balagos, one of the three Necromancers who our heroes are trying to murder. Said heroes will murder him before the day is through.
- Skeletons emerge from berths in the far wall and unsheathe shadowy punch-daggers from their wrsits weapped in silver wire.

--- Swippety Swappety
- Ghost Snels turns and twists a key into the wall, opening a door to the Gardens of Ynn.
- Nieval the Good fires a magical crossbow bolt at Un'Goth on his throne. On contact, they swap places. Nieval sits upon a throne of bone, Un'Goth is in shoved out the door.
- Bye bitch!
- Un'Goth is now in the gardens. Nieval is now under assault by a bunch of freezing skeletons. Ideal.

--- Eye Scream
- Un-Goth grabs his eyes and THROWS them like bolas into the main hall! They click-clack around Snels's neck! The mental wrestle begins! Snels maintains his mind... for now.
- A ball made of meat and bone emerges from the door beside the throne. It is the Ponderous Orb, created from a load of skin kites wrapped around a sphere of bones, and it slurps down any flesh is makes contact with. It rolls over Nieval, who screams bloody murder.

--- All Mind
-Sulphur starts taking over the enemies, huffing down a Last Breath and demanding that they obey him. They are strong, so it takes time.
- In the mean time his undead tear chunks out of the enemy. Little by little they are thinning the swarm.

---Begone
- Un'Goth runs in from the door to Ynn and is immediately whipped back out by Hidra. Snels twists the key, jamming the key in the lock. Un'Goth is GONE!
- The ghost-skeletons are a real horror for our resident Necromancer, since every time one dies it possesses a nearby Dead entity.
- Nevertheless, after more near-death experiences than I expected and a LOT of flesh-eating from the Ponderous Orb, our heroes emerge triumphant!

--- Victory!
- Nieval sits upon the throne of bone. The others strip the silver wire from the enemy dead.
- They find the ritual that creates a Ponderous Orb in the next room, alongside a spellbook containing several other spells and many potions.
- In the meantime, Balagos, Mancy and Dargle have started to merge via maggots. They are slain via stomps.
- The soul-battleaxe of Castigate Pox is found amongst the treasures. A partnership between Hidra and Castigate is forged.
- After all this, our heroes decide to retire. Next time, the Wheatlands!

Session 443 - Prepping for Ungoth

Date: 17 February 1626

Zenith: The Allfather
Moon Phase: New Moon
Moon Face: Dragon Face (Tidelocked)

Events:

--- The Mysterious Child
- We return to our heroes as they stand in Mancy's bedroom, having just discovered the secret passage that leads upwards into the dark.
- Descending the stairs is a small girl-child in too-big Necromancer robes. She introduces herself as Apex, one of the best Necromancers around! Hidra stabs her with the Black Blade of the Dardanelles and she vanishes. Childish laughter echoes from above.
- Hidra lights a torch and ascends the stairs, followed by the others.

--- Curtainfall
- The stairs open out into a large room. A large but historically accurate sarcophagus is in the middle of the room. Steps ascend to an altar bearing golden cups, behind which is a big black curtain.
- Nieval approaches the golden cups and decides to poke the curtain just in case. Alas! It's a whole load of skin kites knitted together and painted black!
- Combat ensues, worst of which is the fact that attacking the curtain makes it split into two smaller skin kite curtains which attack (and absorb skin) separately!
- Hidra's attempts to burn the skin kites to death result in him also going on fire! The scraps of skin kite that separate set Nostradama on fire too!
- After a lot of punching, slashing, and skin-absorption, the skin kite curtain is defeated! Sulfur sends in his zombie horde to smother Hidra, while Nieval smothers Nostradama in the vanished necro-kid's robe.

--- Loot
- Nieval investigates the altar and finds seven golden cups, one of which is ruby-encrusted. He picks up the ruby one and... wow! It fills with wine, but hurts him a little to do so. It's good wine though.
- Hidra examines the sarcophagus, discovering that the inside of the lid is shiny. He lies inside it, closes the lid... and discovers that he can see the nearby landscape from a birds eye view!
- There's an ominous green glow coming from Morning Light Mountain's hole in the midst of the ominous spikes. A huge wooden goose pecks at the ground.

--- Uno Reverse
- They continue on and run into a pack of zombies and skeletons.
- Sulfur huffs Last Breath and subjugates half of them! The subjugated ones turn on their former fellows.

--- Ungoth Unveiled
- They reach a big throne room. Upon the throne is a guy in black-and-white checkered Necromancer robes and a skull wreathed in black flames! It's Ungoth!
- Capsule hotel berths in the wall contain shadowy skeletal figures.
- Mancy asks if he's found the Ponderous Orb spell yet. He has not... but monologues about how it was originally intended to destroy the Beast in the Core of the Earth but now he's going to use it to take over the world!!!
- Hidra chucks his spear, grazing Ungoth's burning skull face. It's on!
- ... next time! Because it's getting late.

Session 440 - Frogs with Freakin' Octopuses in Their Mouths

Date: 20 January 1626

Zenith Deity: The Scorned
Moon Phase: New Moon
Moon Face: Dragon Face

New Backstory:
- Nieval the Good had perfectly planned the conversion of an entire village to the Quizlist faith, getting them each to touch a Marlingspike as it surged with rainbow energies. They were all taken, body and soul, into wherever one goes when they touch a spike. Task failed successfully. +2 AC and Saves for 10 minutes when a plan goes awry.
- Havarti Honeybun was horribly lost in the Veins of the Earth when... lo! A party of friendly strangers took her in! Once per session, cause a helpful stranger to somehow appear.

Events:

--- Into the Hidden Passage
- Well-rested and well-fed, our heroes enter the cave once more. They head swiftly for the pentagram puzzle room and discover that it's reset in their absence! It's quick work with the levers to reopen the way.
- Ghost Snels tears the golden statuette of Santa-if-he-had-tentacles-for-a-beard into 6 pieces, his fingers digging into its strangely fleshy surface. The revealed inner surfaces drip with salt water. Everyone gets a piece, how lovely!

- They ensure that the way out is accessible even if the door closes (smart) and head down the stairs beyond. The bas reliefs go from old timey pre-Christian winter motifs to an undersea theme. Seaweed, deep sea fish, things that squirm and writhe.
- Ahead, an archway to the next room. To the side, a big round metal door is rimed with ice. If it wasn't iced over you'd be able to sort of roll it aside into the wall cavity. Sulphur gets to work with the fire rune on his weapon, melting it away.

--- Spike-Bellied Revenants
- Hidra investigates the dark way forward. Eyes glow blue-white and a voice groans out something in Old Norse. Luckily almost everyone speaks Old Norse for some reason - maybe it's just standard schooling here? - and they understand its meaning - "Merry Solstice!"
- The beings come forward into the light. They are zombies of some sort, tight skin stretched over old bone, and spikes protrude from their bellies like they swallowed a ball of spines. A sixth one follows and walks over to Hidra, it's his weekly free zombie!

- Hidra strikes one with the Black Blade of the Dardanelles to see if the belly thing is a separate entity to the revenant, and VWOMP! The whole guy disappears! Clearly one entity by the sword's reckoning.
- This angers the revenants! Hidra tries to kick the spikes out of one's belly, fails, and after a series of 1s and 20s it works! The body explodes into ice and leaves the spiky thing - a sea urchin - on the floor. Hidra punts the urchin into another revenant to give it competition!
- The others run in, Havarti dropping from her ghost-eater hyena on the ceiling, the others swarming in behind.

- Nostradama smites a zombie with holy power. Ghost Snels cracks his great whip. Sulphur abandons the door-unfreezing quest to attack them too.

- Several urchins hit the floor, crackle... and EXPLODE! The party is blown back by the sea mine sea urchin explosion.

- Havarti invokes her backstory and wishes for a helpful stranger to emerge.
- A dark figure with a black dagger appears in the shadows of the archway. It gestures, and the remaining revenants follow it into the gloom.

--- I Don't Like Em Putting Chemicals in the Water
- Sulphur melts away the last of the ice and sees that there are handprints sunk into the metal to help you roll it. The only weird thing? The hands are webbed...
- War stories and legends of old are told to those who know not of the accursed Frog Monsters.
- They go through and find a collapsed tunnel forward which will take time to clear. Everything is moist.
- In clearing the rubble, they find the corpse of a small person dressed as a christmas elf. Hidra takes its bells.
- The route, now clear, slopes downwards. They follow and come to a side tunnel that leads to a big pool of algae-covered water. Ghost Snels dips his hands in to gather some delicious algae and... SSSSSSS! It's actually acid!

- Ghost Snels and Nieval poke around in the acid with a pole and recover a couple of books from the bottom of the pool, written on thin leaves of stone. They are Book #180 "Other Histories" and Book #182 "The Brass Hell". Nieval is excited about the latter until Ghost Snels informs him that it's just the name for the megadungeon under/inside Fortress-City Fate.
- Havarti draws a Repel Water rune and repels the acid away, allowing them to collect some of the acidophilic algae for testing purposes.

--- Can't Take You Anywhere
- They go back into the sloping tunnel and find the end. A pitch black pool. A huge gnarled and rusty iron circle on the back wall, thankfully unpowered. In the centre of the pool, a plinth upon which a golden statue squats hideously.
- Havarti rides her ghost-eating hyena up the walls until they dangle over the statue. She uncoils a rope, ties it to the harness, and starts to lower herself down.
- Sulphur reaches down to test the black liquid and discovers that it is oil.
- GRAAAERGGGHH!
- Sulphur sees the frog monster leap from the water just in time! He steps back, grabs a handful of teeth from the pouch at his waist, and punches it straight down the frog monster's throat!

- It detonates, tearing the frog to shreds! An octopus floats out of its ruined corpse.
- Simultaneously, Havarti has grabbed the idol. There is a clunk. Everyone goes "ah..."
- Holes in the ceiling drop fiery debris, igniting the oil in a great WHOOOOSH of heat! Havarti is on fire! Sulphur staggers back from the burning pool! The hyena HOWLS in dismay!
- Havarti swiftly disrobes as the hyena flees back towards the way out, her burning clothes falling into the flaming oil below. Sulphur stops, drops and rolls. Those further up the tunnel are harmed by smoke inhalation as the acrid fumes wash upwards!

- Amphibious Assault Vehicle: Fr0G
- Lightly crisped frog monsters leap from the burning oil as Nostradama heals Havarti's wounds with holy light. Nostradama watches in horror as one leaps at Sulphur and swallows him whole before diving back under the flames!
- Battle is joined as everyone attempts not to get swallowed. It quickly becomes evident that these frogs are long dead, merely amphibious exo-suits for the octopuses controlling them from within!
- Hidra whips an octopus out of a frog's mouth and into his hand, where he crushes it.
- Inside the frog, Sulphur is in deadly battle with the octopilot which is trying to strangle him. He has an idea and purses his lips, smooching the octopus right on its beak. As the prophecies foretold, the octopus dies, leaving Sulphur in alleged control of the frog. Alas, without eight limbs it's only partially controllable.
- Sulphur hears more of them coming from inside the frog-suit, so surfaces, jumps out of the mouth, and tells everyone to run! He tooth-bombs the first wave of reinforcements, and everyone flees with the idol!

- Dungeon-Doku
- They escape, grabbing christmas elf clothes from the corpse as they go. Havarti is grateful to have any clothes at all really!
- Havarti inspects the statue. This is a proper 100% A-Grade Cthulhu Statue. It's mad valuable, and after a brief scuffle Ghost Snels divides it up like the other one.
- They exfiltrate all the way out to the entrance and cook a meal of the strange acid-resistant algae, leftover jollof rice, and nice fresh octopus. They call it "Dungeon-Doku" and it's quite nice!

Session 438 - Winter Wonderland Return

Date: 6 January 1626

Zenith Deity: Oberon
Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Moon Face: Clean Face (no effect)

Revealed Backstory:
- Ghost Snels, during the German Peasant Revolt, encouraged his religiously fervent charges to slaughter all captives. They didn't, which is why they lost. Get a reroll against fallout of someone disregarding your advice.

Events:

--- Resolutions
- Our heroes remain where they were at the end of the Christmas Special. In an icy wasteland, Santa's body boiling away into snow at their feet.
- Straight ahead is a winter wonderland, but their attentions are drawn to a swirling vortex of colour labelled Doomed Resolutions.
- They make resolutions and enjoy the results for a bit, but ultimately lose interest.

--- Winter Wonderland
- Memories emerge from Christmas Specials of the past as they enter Winter Wonderland through the blue gate. Didn't we meet James Young here once?
- Nieval heads straight for the ice rink and grows skates from his legs. He does some tricks, and it drops his Intelligence to 3 and boosts his Wisdom to 18! Hidra gives it a go too, but isn't as tricky.
- Next stop is the food court where some of them get mulled wine. Nieval starts floating, Nostradama's stomach grumbles as her torso shrinks, and Ghost Snels shrinks entirely as he turns into a gecko.

--- Gifflewim Un-Reborn
- They meet Gifflewim and discover that he's settled his disagreement with Julgoor by simply eating as many Julgoor shopkeepers as he could find. He's also pretty certain that the Idea of Thorns has won out over the Idea of Wheat in his head. Apparently what remains of Julgoor has now become part of Japhet & Hirsch's body.
- He rejects therapy over any of this, and tells everyone that James Young can be found by the rollercoaster.

--- The Rollercoaster
- They can't find James Young, so they ride the rollercoaster anyway.
- Screaming, they gain strange powers!
-- Snels can teleport himself anywhere in the world... once.
-- Nieval can swap clothing with a person they can see... three times.
-- Sulfur's next kiss will kill the recipient.
-- Hidra has an "uncomfy feeling".
-- Nostradama's clothes decompose into lime green spiders, who weave her new clothes.
- And yet, no James Young.

--- Overpriced Village
- They get food from a slender and somehow still alive Zulu Claus, whose powers are waning.
- Nieval asks for a Terry's Chocolate Orange and gets the original OP version! 16 slices that heal 1d6 per slice!
- Ghost Snels gets jollof rice.
- Sulfur gets gems and trinkets.
- Nostradama gets... 4 rations of normal bread.
- Hidra gets Book 210 - The Light at the End of Days

--- The Orrery Returns!
- The come to a tall but otherwise normal-looking guy called James Young, who stands before a huge and gleaming metal orrery. It spins slowly.
- Hidra plucks Mars from the orrery. Nieval licks it.
- Hidra faces the moon to be always dragon-faced.
- He also spots a dragon-shaped rock and moves it much closer to the Earth. The effects of this new dragon shall be decided elsewhere...
- Thus ends the first session of the year.

Total: 7000 exp

Session 435 - You Get a Minion! You Get a Minion!

Date: 25th November 1625

Zenith Deity: Alaunus
Moon Phase: Waxing Crescent
Moon Face: Pocked Face

New Backstory:
- Sulphur force-fed Nieval the Good back when he nearly died in the ruined castle. Double healing when you give somebody else food.
- Hidra brought out his finest long-prepared supplies when his Lord was restored. It went great! When you take a break, you may declare that you're planning a heist. Next turn you may flash back to the heist planning session and alter the present!
- Havarti encouraged her own lynching in order to feign death and escape the Veins of the Earth! +1 damage per ally surrounding a foe.
- Ghost Snels had a lapse of faith, but when the Pope revealed himself to be a Protestant clone of Ghost Snels' nephew, his faith was restored!! +2 to beneficial cleric magic.

Events:

--- Unhappy Valley
- The party debate what to do now that they have a big wooden goose to fly around in (so long as they stay in the region of menacing spikes). It's got a little bit more range than that, so at Sulphur's request they decide to hit up the spooky valley that fills one with dread to look upon.

- The goose is loose! It lands at the edge of the valley which is choked with mist. A few big flaps of its wings blows aside the mist for a few minutes, revealing a small army of about a hundred skeletons standing at the end of the box canyon.
- Sulphur snorts a line of bone dust, punches himself in the eye, and casts Detect Animated Dead. Only about a third of the skeletons are animated, the rest are just freestanding bones. Closer inspection shows that all the skeletons have hinges at the joints.
- Sulphur slurps up a Last Breath and casts Subjugate Dead a bunch until he's captured all thirty of the animated skeletons! You get a minion! Good thing they brought a Boo-Gilist!

--- Ghost-Eaters
- There are two cave entrances at the bottom of the canyon, and further up the slope are a couple of different doors which seem intentional. They decide to start at the bottom and work their way up.
- Nieval goes first, hears growling, and backs away so that Sulphur can send in his skeleton army.
- The skeletons come across... hyenas! Havarti pushes through and Tames one with her Halfling mind powers. You get a minion! The hyena accedes to her will, and she discovers that it has the power to walk on walls.

- One of the skeletons is lost to a hyena on the ceiling that reaches down from above and grabs it by the skull, they witness the pack devouring the skeleton's animating spirit. These hyenas can eat ghosts!
- They leave the hyenas to it. No harm, no foul. The other cave corridor is half-height, leading to the skeletons bonking their skulls. There is a mysterious patch of wet seaweed hanging from the wall, which is immediately gathered for food.

--- Necromancer vs Boogilist
- Ghost Snels runs ahead for he has a miracle that makes him unaffectable and imperceivable to Chaotic beings, and vice versa. He enters the next room and uses context clues to deduce that skeletons are digging out one of the walls.

- He retreats and the others relay his words to Sulphur, since he's also a Chaotic being and as such cannot see the Cleric.
- The others peer into the room, seeing a group of 5 zombies digging through the wall. Sulphur rolls in and poaches one of the skeletons. Good to have a Necromancer when the Dead are around!
- Unfortunately there's an enemy Necromancer in here too, unseen by Ghost Snels for obvious See No Evil reasons, and he's plenty miffed that someone's nicked one of his workers.

- The Necromancer starts to cast to steal his zombie back, but Hidra is faster! Hidra's whip drags him through his zombie coterie and into the middle of the room, cancelling the spell and making its magics go wild!
- Instead of Subjugating the zombies the spell inverts and subjugates the Necromancer to Hidra's will! You get a minion! His name is Mancy and I have a wonderful time finding his voice, but I'm worried that I've created an ambiguously gay tulpa who knows what mpreg means.

--- Dig! Dig! Dig! Diiiiig!
- The fight is over quicker than it started. Hidra commands his minion to stand down his own minions. Apparently Mancy is down here as a sort of punishment detail, finding a way to dig into the complex proper.
- They question him and discover that this is the ancient tomb of Un'Goth (quoth Sulphur - "so a prep") who once ran or at least was involved with the cult of Tyrsis. He knows of various treasures within, such as the Black Blade of the Dardanelles and the Spirit-Tomb of Po-Ki-Man.
- Sulphur sets his skeletons army to digging through the wall. Many hands etc.
- They check out the room behind Mancy and discover 6 canopic jars (which is somewhat anachronistic). Each has an organ floating within, but each also has some sort of tasty ingredient like the salt-packed skin or the balsamic vinegar preserving the brain. All lick their lips and consider whether they're down for cannibalism. They share the jars around.

--- Dinner Party
- There's going to be some time before the skeletons can dig through that dang wall, so they decide to cook something.
- Ghost Snels forces Mancy to eat the strange enoki that he picked up from the floor near the Morning Light Mountain shelf-fungus goblins. Mancy eats and starts to foam as the enoki replicate.
- Hidra leaps forth and rips the fungus from his minion's throat! He casts it into the fire, destroys it.

- Nostradama, meanwhile, is cooking what she calls the California Dinner Party from seaweed, human meat, and cheese. How does she know about California? Maybe she reads Spanish classics? We just don't know. It's moderately tasty at least.
- Hidra "reads" the dungeon with his backstory powers. It's a single level (from above) but tiered like a hill village.
- Sulphur converts a skeleton into a bookshelf by reforming the rib cage. Sick.

--- Onwards and Inwards
- With that, the wall breaks through! The skeletons and zombies mill about.

- The walls within are a smooth black stone. Possibly polished basalt, possibly rasterised souls. Who can say?
- Ghost Snels asks Mancy if Necromancers have their own language, but no.
- They explore this part of the complex. They come to a statue carved of that same black stone. It's a big guy in robes, huge pauldrons, clutching a skull. His head gouts smoke. It looks a bit like Ghost Snels but Mancy insists that this is Ur'Goth.

--- I Announce the Sacred Word - Open!
- They explore further and find some stairs upwards. Sulphur has an idea though.
- He heads back to the statue, slurps a Last Breath, and says "OPEN!".
- The skull hinges backwards, revealing a button that presses itself. A secret door grinds aside.
- Three more canopic jars are within. There is a further door.

--- The Maggot Man
- They open the next door and see a man lying on a slab who writhes with maggots. He is surrounded by 6 robed cultists.

- "Who enters my immortality chamber??"
- Mancy reveals that he is the third member of the TRIUMVERATE OF EVIL NECROMANCERS!!!
- The party discuss the tautological nature of this statement.
- The Triumverate are made up of Mancy, Dargle and the de facto leader Balagos who wields the Doomed Axe of Castigate Pox. Hidra is very very interested.
- We end, as ever, on a cliffhanger!

- A loud cackle is heard and the pumpkins invade! Several are mown down in the first wave, those that get through enter the pit trap room and fall in! Meanwhile Hidra mans the mounted repeater crossbows behind the arrow slits and starts mowing them down.
- The boss of the wave is a spooky ghostly version of Likelangelo, named Ghostelangelo! In a dramatic twist, Nieval in his Haunted Doll form possesses the boss monster and makes him jump down the spiky pit! Instant defeat!

--- Ghost Goblins
- The next wave is headed by a split between pumpkin-headed goblins and a new threat... goblins with bedsheets over their heads! OOoOOoOoo!
- In a Halloween twist, the ghost goblins actually act like ghosts! They can fly and go through walls! They are still physical beings though, so the fight is bitter and bloody all the same.
- Hidra heads to the helhound room to unleash some chaos.
- The boss of the wave is Nostrademon! Spooky energy flies out and everyone changes spook-type!
- Hidra grapples the boss while Sulphur joins the grapple and stabs in with the wiggly dagger!
- Likelangelo (spook-type Ghost, no relation to the defeated Ghostelangelo) scares the Nostrademon with a powerful BOO! which scares it away! Defeated!

--- Got That Dawg In 'Em
- There is a baying of hounds from the front door! Goblins in dog masks come slavering forth!
- Likealangelo's witch-stolen familiar Gorrible, a horrible vulture-bat-thing, sweeps forward to attack the goblins who are scampering in on all fours and trying to take people down in packs!
- Nieval, currently a Haunted Doll, possesses a goblin at the back and sends it at its fellows.
- Zombie-form Sulphur is busy sending his zombie minions into combat, then supporting them with a flurry of punches.
- The final boss arrives... Gryphon, Fairy-Tale Prince! It's the Gryphon from before his hundred year slumber come to reclaim his castle! He floats charmingly through the air!
- He is surrounded by the souls of the fallen castle servants and they must all be slain to defeat him!
- The team prepare for desperate combat... until Sulphur realises that this time ghost is indeed a time GHOST and thus vulnerable to a Necromancer punch!!
- He leaps forward and punches the prince straight in the jaw, bringing him under Sulphur's control! Boss defeated!

--- Elucidating Questions
- As the ultimate commander of the Halloween-themed invasion force, Temporal Gryphon knows things about his master Morning Light Mountain. They get three questions.
-- What is its greatest weakness? As a plant, it's vulnerable to herbicides.
-- What are its ultimate plans? To absorb or destroy all other life.
-- Why are you obeying it, and could we get them same? It gives eternal life of a sort, and it has vast knowledge.

--- Trick or Treat!
- Finally, treats! Their labours uncover many strange objects.
-- Hidra finds vials of Frost Mask - an icy substance that frightens fire. Flames will not approach the wearer for a full day. 3 doses.
-- Nieval finds a small friendly kitten with glowing yellow eyes.
-- Sulphur finds magic lipstick. Kissing something while wearing it makes a mouth grow where you kissed which can tell you stuff the thing might know. Lasts d4 rounds. Magic is one-use but the lipstick itself is in a fetching sort of muted rose shade that would look pretty good on him.
-- Likelangelo claims the Helmet of Delayed Speed. Give up an action this round to get two in the next.
-- Ghost Snels finds Oil of Brutal Noise. When applied, the wearer finds all sounds to be incredibly painful, taking 1HP damage per clash or round of sustained noise. Lasts 10 minutes.
- Nostradama finds a huge regenerating chorizo! Encumbers. 1/10 chance of the magic running out per ration used at once (ie. 3 rations in a meal, 3/10 chance)

Session 413 - Drudgespar Debate Society

Date: 15th July 1625

Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Moon Face: Dragon Face
Zenith Deity: The Lady

Events:

--- The Aftermath
- After fighting off a load of space-Dwarves (?) and hiding once more in the safety cube, our party emerge relatively refreshed!
- Maxwell has a lot of opinions on the structural integrity and tensile strength of Drudgespar now that the forces at work have effectively reversed.

- The ground is unsteady as the great city sways through the skies. If they go up, it's goblins (blue or otherwise). If they go down, more of those Dwarves in the beetle-black suits. There's also a big hole that's been blown in one side of the big cone.
- Cytoplasmic ooze begins bubbling up from below, swirling around Dwarf bones. A quickly scrawled Detect-Life glyph shows that it's ALIVE! In fact, VERY ALIVE!

--- Who Out Here Extruding They Goblin
- A goblin form slowly grows and forms out of the cytoplasm. He's green but he's got shelf-fungus ridges and white eyes. It introduces itself as a Motile.
- They talk for a while, it is commanded by the Immotile Deep Dark Dissident who has grown into the walls of the Dwarven Arcology below, the better to escape the solar system in the event of the Earth's collapse.
- It collapses back into ooze. Maxwell tries to bring it back with a quick Take-Life rune and absorbs... too much life?! He tries absorbing some of it that life into himself but feels something powerful start to subsume him! He breaks the rune and lets the energies drain away.

--- Let's Go Up, Gang!
- They decide to go up to the main city and parley with the blue goblins now that they have this new information. It's anti-grav time on the safety cube. Up up and away!
- They land on the Undercity layer and head upwards, on the way accosted by a drunk Australian woman who apparently lives inside my mind, ready to come out at any time. She's absolutely pissed on boxed wine.
- It transpires that she's an Elf called Spatchcock - a Gluntie Queyne if you want to get technical - and after some banter agrees to lead the party to the lift up to the Skirts where the blue goblins currently rule.
- On the way, Maxwell informs an anti-blue rebel hobgoblin of various other runes they can use. It's not just Take-Lightning. There are others! However this situation calls for a truly massive Take-Lightning rune that should hopefully depower all the blue goblins above. Can you get the rebellion on that? Nice one, thanks.
Spatchcock, meanwhile, has heard the Word through Nostradama and converted to Nonanism. Will she remember she did this once the hangover's worn off? Only the Nine can know!

--- Audience with the Bloblins
- They get on the lift to the Skirts and while it makes its slow, lumbering, rickety way up the walls of Drudgespar they see the goblins below lighting up the super-rune. By the time the party reaches the Skirts the blue goblins are in disarray! They can still fly, but their powers are being curtailed!
- Sulphur demands to see their leader and, under the circumstances, they take the party straight there.
- The leader is called The Almighty Bode and the effects of the Take-Lightning glyph have turned him a strange shade of mauve.
- He tells them the plan again - drop Drudgespar on the Place of Honour, killing the evil Immotile Morning Light Mountain, Mother of Goblins. They won't attack it directly because it can mind control goblins, which is why it's been contained but left to its own devices in a landscape of spikes all this time. Wipe it out and its evil influence will never affect goblinkind ever again!
- The city is to be evacuated, and so the goblin residents depower the giant Take-Lightning rune and begin bailing out by parachute and helicopter-hat and sometimes just loads of padding. Down into the mushroom forest below. Manrat plans to go down there and lead them as some sort of Khan.
- The great city keeps moving inexorably towards the Place of Honour where Morning Light Mountain lies scheming...

Session 412 - What Does This Button Do?

 Date: 24th June 1625

Moon Phase: New Moon
Moon Face: Pocked Face
Zenith Deity: The Scorned

New Characters:
- Lazy Lie, a Fighter who looks remarkably like a big blue dragon in a moustache... but that can't be right surely??

Revealed Backstory:
- Sulphur gave generously to Bulgur's funeral! +2 Charisma
- Nostradama knocked on a scary old door in a scary old house in the hopes of converting the scary old woman to the light of Nonanism! +2 to doing something everyone says is a bad idea
- Gaius Julius Drusus ate the biggest human he'd ever seen to prove his bravery! +2 Strength

Events:

--- A Long-Prophesied Return
- The party, seeking snacks after their battle with the massive Terran, enter the dungeon pantry.
- Within they find a big blue dragon who says he's a Fighter, and a returning character from long ago! Gaius Julius Drusus, alleged Roman Emperor and Halfling!
- Sulphur cooks a delicious beef and black pudding wellington. It's genuinely amazing.

--- Mysterious Seating Arrangement
- They hear the knocking of an encounter at an external door, but they'd cleverly countermanded it by opening just the inward-facing airlock doors.
- Still, maybe not that way.
- They come to a large mysterious cube-shaped room. Padded seats with rollercoaster-style braces are gimballed to the walls.
- Maxwell draws a Talk-Electricity rune to communicate with the electronics. The vibes are good, so the electricity does him a solid and flips out a big console with a big red button on it! It also has two keys at either end which give that "turn these simultaneously" vibe.

--- Strap In
- Maxwell is enamoured of the big red button. What could go wrong with pressing a big red button?
- Everyone else straps into a seat, and one of the seats swings down for Maxwell.
- He pressed the button and...
- BOOOMM!!!! Massive explosion! Everyone's seats rock and their stomachs drop as they fall!
- After several stomach-lurching seconds there's a great crash. The seats worked perfectly though, everyone's unharmed.

--- You Maniacs, You Blew It Up!
- They spin the door open and beyond is... a disaster. It's all gone. They're inside a great spherical impact crater. A whole lower section of Drudgespar above has been broken off above, a huge spike aimed ominously downwards. The glooping stuff of the wastes leaks in around it. The dungeon itself is just... gone.
- There is a great tearing, cracking sound as the rest of Drudgespar shears off. The blue goblins, the blue whale balloon, and all the other balloons that were trying to float Drudgespar can finally take the weight!
- Bits of giant scorpion rain down to Manrat's horror. He'd just paid for that!

--- Dwarf Defence
- Before they can truly work out what to do next, hatches open up around the circular smooth surface of the bottom of the impact crater. Dwarves pop out along with mounted repeater crossbows!
- They are wearing slick black armour with clear bubble helmets and they are, for fairly good reason, absolutely livid.
- Battle is joined. The crossbows (and importantly, hatches) are arrayed around the room in a big circle, so the party splits into multiple groups to charge in!
- Maxwell has a solo battle with a Dwarf on the long ladder that leads down from the hatch, firing beams at each other. He gambits to hook the Dwarf with his fire axe and sends it down the shaft, before doing another gambit to swing down after and gut it!
- He lands and finds himself surrounded by Dwarves, but they're all holding back in fear of this demon who blew up the world then murdered their compatriot with a flaming axe.
- Meanwhile Sulphur has been punching (and Last Breath collecting) his way down one of the hatches. He slurps up some sputum and engages Soul Vision which lets him see souls, and due to a faint soul-energy in the stone he can see in the dark. He spots the souls of Zeppelino and co and starts running the corridor.
- Speaking of Zeppelino and co, the "co" here being Manrat and Nostradama, they've slid down the hatch ladder and are currently under assault by a whole squad of Dwarves. After eating a few close calls, they decide discretion is the better part of valour and bug out. Zeppelino brings up the rear, his talking shield biting undies to protect them from below.

--- Corpse-Punch!
- Sulphur sees the others escaping and slips through that room while the Dwarf squad is firing up the shaft. Stealth!
- He keeps going, seeing Maxwell ahead and the souls of the cowering Dwarves.
- Maxwell sees Sulphur coming and with a great burst of strength throws the corpse of the Dwarf he killed towards him! Sulphur sees what's coming, brings back a fist, and flash-steps into a Corpse Explosion Punch!
- The corpse explodes, showering the surrounding Dwarfs in shards of bone and jagged discs of solidified blood! Maxwell and Sulphur escape while the Dwarfs scream in pain and shock.

--- Safety Box
- The various party members arrive up top to find that Gaius and Lazy Lie have managed to mount a repeating crossbow onto the "fighter" dragon's back, which again is suspicious. Gaius has mounted the other's back and created a sort of biological technical. He gives cover fire as the others run back to the safety of the cube!

Session 411 - This Isn't Even My Final Form!!

Date: 17th June 1625

Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Moon Face: Dragon Face
Zenith Deity: Minerva

Revealed Backstory:
- Nostradama's home town was beset by a roving Am-Dram group. She ran off to join them! +1 to Reaction Rolls with outsiders, troupes and other social itinerants
- Sulphur spurned the tyrant Death Itself and was reborn anew! +2 to hit kings, leaders, and tyrants
- Maxwell always tries to fix problems on the fly, rather than clean up the mess afterwards. +2 to actions taken to salvage a situation that's just gone horribly wrong.

Events:

--- Corpse Farm
- We reunite with our favourite team of delvers as they explore deeper into the extensive queueing system that leads down and down to the long-lost Dwarven arcology of Ur-Jeizhek. The air is thick with the smell of stone.
- Nostradama has returned, and exhorts her fellow travellers to follow the Nonanist Gods. None heed the call, but at least she's got the Lady's luck on her side.
- Carrying on from the room where they recently murdered a bunch of Ur-Jeizhek Dwarves, they head through into a big cool underground farm filled with Plump Helmet Mushrooms. Zeppelino harvests some, and in so doing discovers that this farm is a graveyard! Corpses feed the mushrooms from the soil!
- Sulphur is intrigued, he could raise these cadavers if he wanted. For now he simply takes some of the grave dirt to power his spells.
- They move off but eat a wave of spores released from the mushrooms! No harm done, but it makes them cough and splutter.

--- Farmed Corpses
- The next room has a multitude of small paddocks, all of which contain the long-rotted corpses of various species of humanoid.
- Sulphur hops the fence into the Human Paddock and - alas! - is stuck! From inside it looks like there's no way out at all, although the others can see him in there. Shenanigans ensue, eventually resulting in the sacrifice of one of Zeppelino's goblins (name of Babyccino) but the reclamation of Sulphur!

--- Terran Terror
- There's a well-locked door at the end of the paddock room, which Maxwell handily jimmies open. There's a gust of stale air. A hulking shape - another corpse! - lies on the stairs. It's a Terran - the double-wide Dwarf ancestor race - but its stone skull has been hollowed out from the back. Its robes are covered in indecipherable words in an alien tongue.
- They descend and find a room covered in warnings. The ceiling is a big map of Loegria in sharp-edged plaster. Concentric circles denote the location of Ur-Yaltakh, another arcology. Around it, literally plastered on the walls, are warnings are in hundreds of languages, newer languages layered over their origins. They all say one thing - LEAVE THIS PLACE!

--- Ah, Soul
- They look around for which way out of here has the MOST warnings, and pick that direction!
- Sulphur engages Soul Sight to scout through walls, and to his surprise sees that the stone itself has a huge slow soul of its own! He sees through the soul-walls and spots a blazing bright soul deeper in.
- The doors here are airlocks connected by short lengths of corridor. You can't open one side without closing the other. The party piles through and find themselves in a pantry!
- There's fancy and well-preserved treats in here. Wagyu beef, black pudding, millefeuille, and suchlike. Duly grabbed!
- The bright soul is in the next room, so they go in...

--- The Breaching Terran
- Inside there is an absolutely huge Terran. An absolute unit. He's surrounded by piles of Dwarven gold coins and a small library of books and is charging and/or being charged by a big electrical thingy built into the wall.
- Communications swiftly fail. Sulphur tries to sneakily steal a book and, alas! Battle is joined!
- A hail of bullets and rats thump into the giant's stone body, then Maxwell follows up with a gambit to smash its huge body into the floor! It... vanishes? Chunks of rubble scatter everywhere.
- It can't be that easy, can it?
- Nostradama wastes no time in scraping gold into her big tarp - the tarp she hid under to save her from the poison storms during the Poisoned Years.

--- First Form
- The chunks of Terran on the floor vanish as he phases back up through the floor and returns fully formed! And now even madder! He swiftly crushes an entire rat swarm with his huge stone fists.
- Maxwell starts turning the floor clear with a Turn-Air glyph so they can see what's going on when the giant is phased in. Sulphur shatter the giant again with a critical hammer blow!
- It's back to scraping up trreasure between forms. The giant goes down quite easy, but doesn't stay down.

--- Second Form
- Zeppelino tries eating "just a little" chunk of the shattered Terran and soon feels it get sucked back out of him! The Terran is now leaner, meaner, more muscular! He's faster too!
- He stomps some more rats and is very upset at being (even only a little bit) eaten. Maxwell's glyph is at full power now, so they can see chunks spiralling around under the floor there!
- Nostradama has a plan! She whips out her tarpaulin again, scattering coins everywhere, and sweeps it under the Terran's feet. Maxwell gambits his grapnel line and trips the great monster! Now wrapped up in the tarp, Sulphur smashes him up!
- It works! It's being smashed quicker than it can reform, and is now fully stuck partway between forms!
- Everyone takes some chunks (Zeppelino chucking some pieces into the Dwarf paddock to see if it holds it) and Nostradama reclaims her tarp, rolling loads of gold coins into it.
- Incredible success!

Session 404: Falsehood Not Found

Date: 8th April 1625

Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous
Moon Face: Dirty Face
Zenith Deity: Minerva

New Backstory:
was once very overweight due to a drinking problem. He was forced to turn to a life of adventuring to pay off the debt, which is at the very least good cardio. +2 AC for ten minutes after downing alcohol.

Events:

--- It's Just a Die, Bro
- We find the party out in the Drudge Wastes on the edge of a Mushroom Forest formed from enormous fungi. Ferrofluid Flats stretch out before them, the heavy black liquid shining in the dim sun that filters through the greenish haze. However they themselves are encamped on a rind of normal grassland that rings an incongruously ordinary well.
- They realised last time that the dungeon below is a non-euclidean 12-roomed structure that conforms nicely to a dodecahedron. Thus, players armed in real life with a d12, they descend once more.
- Following 's map which has been (up until now) frustrated to make, they leave the sandstone entry room and try another direction.
- There's a chain in here attached to a ring on the floor. Flipping it through a fulcrum on the ceiling allows one to raise the stone the ring is attached to. Bulgur, being very strong, heaves the stone up! Zeppelino sends his minion Tax Burden to look underneath the raised stone. There's a key! Tax Burden takes it and it's actually fine! The key is in a classic style and made of copper.

--- ■ ■
- The next area has the bottom of a well on the floor, and a rope snaking up against gravity to coil on the ceiling. Manrat calls for his squire to no avail, then sends a rat shimmying down/up the rope.
- The rat saw a lot! There's an orange sky up there.
climbs well and the gravity inverts on the way up/down. He reaches the surface to find himself in a world with an orange sky and a broken moon. The trees twist strangely. Those below forget him. He has become a Lost Thing.
- The party begins to move on and Manrat is incensed! ■ did so much for them! Mapping! Shouting them beers at the bar! Everyone loved ! The others dismiss this as the rantings of a mad ratman.

--- Well Well Well
- Manrat Snels, slightly embarrassed because he can't remember what he was ranting about, whips his sword around in the foggy doorway to create sort of fog-candyfloss. It clings to his blade, slowly outgassing.
- They pass through that doorway and enter a room where the floor has been shattered by a great impact. Water pools at the bottom. Bulgur fishes in his pocket and finds a Make-Air-Light glyph that he doesn't remember making.
- He dives into the pool and swims down. His hand hits an arm, he grabs. It's a nondescript human male. He swims up and... isn't that ? No, isn't that Maxwell??
- Maxwell coughs up water, he's alive! And real! Everyone else is a bit embarrassed that they didn't realise who Manrat was ranting about.
- Bulgur looks down and sees the clear water is murky now, but only to him. Nostradama dives in and finds a strange knife with a gold side and a silver side. At the very least it seems to pierce armour. Perhaps it can do more...?
Zeppelino dives and finds a key. Manrat dives and finds treasure in a small chest! Maxwell is peer-pressured into diving back in and returns with a rusty bell. Nostradama tests her knife edge on the bell and SHING! it carves straight through!

--- Return Chamber
- They leave and find themselves back in the frost-rimed room. The ghost of Nonk begs for clothes. He's so so cold. Zeppelino, being Nonk's father-figure, has to be persuaded to leave the poor creature behind.
- The next room has a round-faced pedestal upon which rests a button. Around the button are arrayed the numbers 1-20 in roman numerals.
- Bulgur HITS THE BUTTON! The numbers glow red... then begin ticking down...
- Hit it and the button returns to 20.
- Nostradama shatters her sword and, hit, it was never broken!
- Manrat tries to leave and hit he never left!
- Manrat swallows poison and, in his death throes, shoots Zeppelino in the back of the head and hit it never happened!
- They leave together, bemused, albeit Zeppelino remembers his murder at the hands of Manrat..

--- Tree of Forgotten Truths
- They leave into a chamber with a great autumnal tree growing from a cracked floor. The leaves drift down, their veins are scratched lettering. Each is a secret soon to fade.
- Of course the party scrabble through the fallen leaves. They discover much, albeit disparate. The Red Elves need help. The Mona Lisa exists. The location of Ur-Darghab - the City by the Undersea - deep beneath where Fate once was. The spell Void Body. The knowledge that the Wheatlands have a false king.
- Zeppelino leaps up to grab a leaf directly from the tree. It's a secret, partially written, growing but not complete. Zeppelino floats chopping the tree down, but Nostradama says "brooooo noooooooooo".
- At least they grab some secrets as spice for their meals. Muy delicioso.

--- Lost
- They enter the final room and...!
- Oh it's the one with the plinths. Maxwell flips his map around. Ok, that way.
- There are statues in here. Statues of dungeon-crawling types. There are more.
- They spin around, ok maybe they're actually lost.
- They wander around for a while. Nostradama tries using her knife to cut through the floor and... beyond is an orange sky with strange trees. Broo nooooo.
- They finally find their way back to the tree of secrets, and try an untried portal.

--- Kairophagus
- Beyond, on a plinth, is a blue-winged sphynx in lustrous dark plumage.
- It blinks, and smiles, and Zeppelino states the statement they came here to make - "The Idea of Thorns yet lurks within Gifflewim".
- The sphinx opens it's mouth and CHOMPS at the air. It licks its lips. A piquancy of falsehood, delicious!
- The party realise that this Sphinx can make the false become true.
- Bulgur isn't/is the Strongest Man in Loegria!
- Manrat isn't/is the bearer of a gem worth 100 000 obols!
- Nostradama states that she is the most powerful sorceress in the world, which means that she isn't. (A tragic epistemological mistake)
- Maxwell confirms that Julgoor won't/will die on August 12, 1625.

--- Gifflewim
- They leave, satisfied, and follow the map back to the real rope-up-through-the-well entrance.
- They climb back to the top.
- There they find Gifflewim, eyes red like he's been rubbing them. His head is shaking like he's trying to resist his thoughts. "What did you put into my head Charles?!" he says, glaring directly at the player, "What did you PUT into my HEAD!?"

Session 398 - Loot? Awww I Wanted Food!

Date: 18th February 1625

Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Moon Face: Dragon Face
Zenith Deity: The Allfather

New Characters:
- Korgar the Barbarian, a drug dealer who was selling wraps of Notcoke to the lizardified Goblins under Visco City.

Returning Characters:
Brie van der Hells. Necromancer. Brought Korgar into proceedings.
- Bulgur, Son of Borgar. Barbarian. Contemplating recklessness.
Manrat Snels. Ratman. Always has something to add to the cooking pot.
Nines. Inheritor. Obsessed with these mysterious square runes.
- Nostradama. Nonanist Cleric. Still yet to call forth a miracle.
- Zeppelino. Goblin. Genuine fear of getting steamed and eaten.

Events:

--- You Wake Up in a Dungeon (Benign Version)
- The party awaken after a nice nap amongst their new friends the Goblizards. They are, of course, part-goblin part-lizard people who proclaim that their lizardliness comes from the Lizard Wizard who lives in the mud hut further in.
- They are all, of course, in a dungeon. It's in and/or under Visco City, the deepest level of the ever-rising Goblin capital of Drudgespar. The black and purple-veined ooze-bricks are under great strain from the weight of the city above and wasteland gunk plops and bubbles in from the cracks. This place will inevitably collapse one day, but until then people still live down here.
- Nines, the party's resident monster-eating Inheritor, is obsessively trying out combination of runes. He's recently discovered that runes can be drawn four-sided for a weaker impact, a sort of proto-rune developed before the invention of circles. He finds a combination that creates illusory fire.

--- The Lizard Wizard
- Zeppelino, meanwhile, wants to meet this Lizard Wizard. He's a Goblin so maybe he can get lizardified!
- The wizard's mud hut is more of a steam room. Zeppelino feels his vegetable-flesh becoming nice and tender like a steamed broccoli stalk. It scares him. Why does everyone want to eat him?
- The Lizard Wizard is extremely nude, introduces himself as Gharial and says the steam tenderises goblin flesh and makes it easier for the snake DNA to transform them. Zeppelino sends a goblin minion, Espresso, to get lizardified. It does not go well.
- He also directs the party towards the half-dwarf half-dragon High Priest of the Neo-Ninhursag religion further in. To be fair I had forgotten about this guy, but he was apparently established last session!

--- Korgar Tests His Luck
- The others head for the dragon-dwarf High Priest while Korgar tries to surreptitiously rifle through the pockets of the Lizard Wizard which is hanging outside the steam room. It doesn't work. He has to buy off witnesses with some of his Notcoke. However, for his troubles, he does find a map of the local area.

--- The High Priest
- The rest have reached the High Priest and discover that it is indeed an elemental dragon! The core that sustains it, once a huge chunk of elemental crystal, has boiled away over the years to reveal the body of the Dwarf who once apotheosised. The Dwarf's arms and legs dangle limply from within the remaining core, yet when the dragon-priest speaks it is the Dwarf's mouth that moves.
- The beast priest gives a sermon on the power of Ninhursag, of the betrayal that slayed the great Apocalypse Dragon, of the way that the power of belief will allow it to be reborn. To the dismay of the resident Nonanists, not least Nostradama, both Nines and Brie van der Hells find themselves so moved by the sermon that they convert on the spot!
- The consequence of their faith? The ability to use the Earth rune at any time, at the cost of promising never to heal via unnatural means.
- Brie sees that there is a private mud-bath in the chamber beyond. She asks if she can use it, and after a bit of wrangling (largely by promising to bring the priest extra dragon core shards) she's allowed to use it. It's too hot, but Brie uses a Beam-Cold rune to cool it down enough to get in. Very nice!

--- Korgar Tests His Luck, Nearly Fatally
- Bulgur has wondered off to find something to kill. He comes across the public mud-bath, real onsen vibes. Some Goblin-Lizards are even soaking themselves as we speak!
- He tests the mud. Fine quality. Good for crops. Good for skin.
- Korgar grabs some mud and works it into balls. He doesn't have a weapon, so this is the best he's got.
- He then heads into the nearby sleeping chamber, hoping to nick stuff. There are several sleeping lizard-goblins in here. One of them has a very tempting silver necklace with a cool dragon head design...
- His hand reaches for the necklace and.. SNAP! The goblin jerks awake and savages Korgar's shoulder with its great tearing teeth! So much for stealth!
- Korgar tears his shoulder out from between the goblin's jaws and staggers away, bleeding, heading straight for the healing mud-bath, pursued by recently awakened and very angry goblizards!
- The blood loss is too much. The bleeding Barbarian staggers, falls, and slides to a stop right at the edge of the mud pool. Brie, surprised and delighted, takes the silver necklace as tribute. She slides back into the mud, relaxed.

--- Social Shenanigans
- It's a real chaotic scene! Brie is wearing that one guy's precious necklace. Korgar is bleeding to death on the floor, being healed by Nostradama while being stabbed at by angry goblin-lizards. Bulgur is emerging from the mud where, due to a backstory bonus, he has been hiding this whole time.
- Bulgur gets between Korgar and the goblins! With a mighty wrestle, he hefts one of the goblins into the mud!
- Somehow even more confusingly, Nostradama starts singing an ode.
- Everyone is so confused that they all stop and reconsider what's going on. Especially when the High Priest turns up and angrily demands an explanation!
- The conclusion eventually, is that there's clearly been a big misunderstanding. As a result the party can leave peacefully, but they are strongly encouraged never to return. Bulgur bullies the lizard-goblin into buying back his necklace at a discount. They decide to leave via a different route to the one they entered through.

--- Fresh Fresh Water
- It's back to dungeon delve mode for our heroes. Leaving the lizard-goblins behind, they traverse through corridors built through the crumbling and creaking undercity.
- Behind a door they find... a well! It's good clear water, albeit it has the soapy taste of a mild alkaline, and the buckets around here make it obvious that this is where the Goblizards go to refresh themselves.
- Nines decides to rune up and dive in. His combo rune of Make-Air with a side of Make-Light works perfectly. It's not accidentally Make-Magma, to the disappointment of some.
- The light is inside his mouth though, so he has to open his mouth to see. Those above, looking down into the bubbling water, see flashes of light, flashes of light, flashes, flashes, then... no flashes.
- Nines, down below, has been grabbed by something slimy and choking! It's crushing his arm, and his concentration on the air rune has been broken! Now it's got his leg! And his other arm!
- He escapes by using his Inheritor powers to take the form of a previously devoured being - a snake! Can't grab legs and arms when you don't have any!
- Snake!Nines blasts out of the well in a beautiful arc, to the shock of those above. He animorphs back into human form (with the snakeskin artfully becoming his snake-leather jacket) and warns the others to get back! There's a slimy kelp monster down there! But it's not a kelpie per se, because as far as he could tell it's not a horse.

--- Underwater Grenade
- There's a kelp monster down there. Nines wants to eat it. They concoct a plan.
- Brie conjures a Meat Slave out of a piece of greying meat she's been keeping in her pocket. It's going to be used as bait. It takes the bait!
- Everyone but Nines helps on the fishing rod, it's strong!
- Nines, meanwhile, shocks the surface of the water with a Beam-Lightning rune. The kelp creature releases the Meat Slave bait, but it's not going to kill it.
- Brie floats the idea of dropping a grenade down there because she heard about pressure waves in the bardic equivalent of a youtube video. Good thing they've got a clockwork bomb!
- It works! Albeit all the water in the well explodes out of it. Scraps of kelp at the bottom are enough for Nines to digest the creature's slimy wrestling ability, but the bulk of the monster is deeper in. The walls of the well are unstable, but Nines uses the ground-stabilising ability he ate from an Ennui Ent to keep it from collapsing as he gathers the kelp.
- Alas, there's not enough of it to make sushi. Nines has eaten it all.

--- Stupid Inedible Treasure
- We're coming up to the end of the session, and traditionally this is when people decide to cook a meal.
- Alas, there's not that much food in everyone's pockets. The next room is a pillared hall with the dessicated and potato-rotten corpses of a bunch of goblins, their dead flesh is like veggies left at the back of your crisping drawer. Not super appetising.
- Zeppelino decides to push his luck and see if he can find something to eat. Nines and Brie join him.
- The others check out a nearby room and discover an abandoned guardpost. Clearly the guards here are amongst the dead outside. There are some crossbows though! It's also very defensible and has murderholes that look out on the pillared chamber.
- They use dessicated goblin as firewood and put a pot on to boil while Zeppelino, Brie and Nines find a mysterious room with rattling chains running between holes in the ceiling and holes in the floor. Brie tries pulling the chains and... wow! A two-person dumbwaiter lift thing drops down in the next room!
- Nines and Zeppelino head up while Brie pulls the chains to raise them up. They emerge into a secret room! Four stone gargoyles on pedestals surround the lift, but behind them there are piles of silver, golden goblets, gems, and all sorts!
- Zeppelino looks it all over with dismay. He wanted something to eat!
- The suspiciously not-moving-at-all gargoyles spook the both of them, especially when one (in the flickering torchlight) seems to give a "don't try it" kind of head shake. They stamp on the lift until Brie lowers them back down.

--- A Meagre Feast
- With nothing to show for it but mere knowledge of a treasure hoard, they return to the rest of the party to find that cooking is well underway!
- It's Mushroom & Potato Soup w/ Croutons, crafted from a single large mushroom, stale bread croutons, a lump of butter, and fresh goblinflesh supplied by a sobbing Zeppelino. One of his minions mysteriously died after contact with Nines, nobody could have foreseen this.
- With all the various bonuses, it's delicious! Everyone slurps down the soup, unheeding of the potential consequences of eating Goblin flesh. On the plus side, everyone gets a boost to Sleight of Hand tomorrow!
